Bingley Show has been forced to move to Saturday next year after it emerged that it had been inadvertently operating illegally on a Sunday for a decade.
The law – which is understood to date back to the 19th century – prohibits organisers of events charging for entry to parks on Sundays.
Airedale Agricultural Society, which runs the show, has now been told by Bradford Council that it would have to comply with the law from next year if it continued to hold the event on a Sunday.
Shipley MP Philip Davies has now called for a change to the legislation so the show can be legally held on Sundays, however, he conceded that it could take “many years” for any changes to come into force.
