A Bradford University student whose throat was slashed during a robbery was tied to a bed by a power cable round his neck, a murder trial jury was told.

Tony Ho, 19, was attacked in the hall of his student accommodation and found dead in his blood-soaked clothes, Bradford Crown Court was told yesterday.

Mr Ho, who was studying chemistry and forensic science, was tortured and murdered by two brutal robbers who tricked their way into his home, it is alleged.

His sister – Sally Ho, 22, a pharmacy student – told the jury she was hit with a bottle then bound and gagged in the cellar of the house in Grantham Road, Great Horton, Bradford.

Her boyfriend – law student Gavin Stolarczyk, 30 – was stabbed in the side and tied up when all three were robbed on Friday, January 22.

Reaben Kareem, 20, of Walsall, West Midlands, and Jwanru Osman, 20, of Northolt, Middlesex, deny murdering Mr Ho but admit conspiracy to rob.

Kareem pleads guilty to wounding Miss Ho and Mr Stolarczyk with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Osman denies those charges.

Forensic scientist Elisabeth Harris told the jury Mr Ho was first attacked in the hall and that blood pumped from a damaged blood vessel onto the walls, floor and a door.

He was lying on his sister’s bed as he bled freely from a deep wound across his throat.

Mrs Harris said the weapon that killed him and injured Mr Stolarczyk was not found in the house.

Kareem’s plimsolls and jeans were extensively stained with Mr Ho’s blood.

Mrs Harris said she believed he had struggled with Mr Ho while the student was injured and bleeding. Osman’s training shoes and trousers had much less blood on them, the court heard.

Mrs Harris told the jury that blood had dripped on to his shoes from Mr Ho or from the side of the bed where his body was discovered.

The Crown alleges Kareem planned the robbery after stealing money from his father’s bank account. The jury has been told the Hos received “substantial financial support” from their parents who lived in Hong Kong.

Osman is said to have told police the crime was based on the horror film Hostel.

Mr Ho was stabbed 13 times before his throat was cut. The sum of £1,600 was later transferred from his account to Kareem’s.
