Holidaymakers from Yorkshire spend the least when they are away compared to people from other parts of the country, a new survey claims.

The poll by comparison site travel supermarket.com found travellers from Yorkshire to be the tightest in the UK, spending £281 per person per week.

Holidaymakers from Northern Ireland were found to be the biggest spenders, paying out £420 per person per week, followed by Londoners at £350 a week.

But people out in Bradford city centre yesterday had mixed reactions to the survey’s findings. Some said they spent far less than £280 while away but others admitted to spending as much as £600 a week.

The survey also found men often outspend women while away, budgeting for an average of £348 a week compared to £265.

Almost half (46 per cent) of respondents said they will definitely go on holiday in the next 12 months while 49 per cent said they like to book holidays between one and four months before going away.

Bob Atkinson, of travelsupermarket. com, said: “Holidays are great things to look forward to, so it’s hardly surprising that nearly half of us are definitely planning a getaway in the next year, despite worries over the economy, Government cuts and jobs.

“It’s interesting that men are significantly outspending women while away.”
