Entrepreneurs from two primary schools have raised more than £1,000 for Manorlands Hospice.

Pupils from Sacred Heart Primary School and Ben Rhydding Primary School in Ilkley took part in the Sue Ryder Care Manorlands Hospice enterprise challenge Mind Your Own Business. The scheme challenged youngsters to create a business, and turn a start-up donation from Sue Ryder Care into a profit.

Sacred Heart pupils raised £790 by running stalls and games at the school’s summer fair while Ben Rhydding students raised almost £300 by making and selling handy crafts, buns and cakes.

Teacher Lucy Neal said: “The businesses encouraged the children to learn about planning, advertising, marketing and profit.”

All funds raised will go to help Manorlands Hospice, which supports people, their families and friends affected by end of life and long-term conditions.

Katie Rhodes (left), of Sue Ryder Care, said: “It is exciting to see young people so enthusiastic about enterprise and raising funds to support our work. We are really grateful to both of the schools for their support.”
