More than £7,000 will be given to festivals and community events by Ilkley Parish Council this year, but councillors say they will not fund Ilkley Carnival.
Ilkley Summer Festival is to get the largest grant from the council’s community events pot, after councillors gave £5,000 to the month-long festival in August.
The council also underwrites the self-funding Last Night of the Proms concert at the finale of the festival.
This weekend’s Ben Rhydding community fete is in line for £300 for funding from the parish council. Councillors also agreed to give £1,000 to the Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts, £700 to Ilkley Flower Show, £500 to Ilkley Arts Federation for its autumn arts festival.
But councillors felt they could not give money from the public purse to Ilkley Carnival as it raises money for good causes – councillors felt they could not give public money to another organisation to redistribute.
