An expanding children’s clothing retailer is putting its faith in Bradford by re-opening a shop which closed earlier this year.

DKZ, which sells clothing for children up to the age of 13, opened at the former Adams shop in Broadway on Saturday.

The outlet employs eight staff, several of them former Adams workers who lost their jobs when the company ceased trading in April, including manager Debbie Harris.

DKZ, which has the rights to the Ben Sherman brand, is the retail arm of the Hertfordshire-based Flyers Group.

The Bradford store is one of three former Adams outlets to be taken over by the firm.

Richard Farrow, a former Adams executive, is the firm’s retail director and is optimistic about the Bradford shop’s chances of success.

He said: “Our chairman Dean Murray recommended we look at Bradford. We believe its location, together with our focus on quality products and customer service, will enable us to succeed.

“We are aiming to grow to around 25 shops over the next year or so and this will enable us to pay close attention to individual sites.

Our philosophy is that its better to be a small fast fish than a big fish.”

Mr Farrow said the new shop would stock designer-branded clothing but would also include a value range.

he said: “We have been able to negotiate some keen property deals and are very cost conscious, which enables us to offer quality clothing at affordable prices as well as expensive items for special occasions “The demise of Woolworths, Adams and Ethel Austin has opened up opportunities in the marketplace which we are determined to take advantage of. Our managers are regarded as local managing directors with control over their shops and their local knowledge and relationship with customers will be the basis of our success.”

DKZ currently has a turnover of around £3m.
