New sponsors have come forward to ensure a business awards scheme which rewards small firms can continue.

After three successful years, including a record level of entries from firms across Yorkshire last year, the future of the Biz Awards, which originated in Bradford, was in doubt.

But the fourth annual Biz Awards will go ahead at Bradford’s Cedar Court hotel in September after several firms stepped in to support the event.

New sponsors include Cleckheaton and Keighley-based accountants Clough & Company and law firm Gordons, which has offices in Bradford and Leeds.

The event is also being backed by previous Biz Awards winner Just Coffee People, from Leeds.

Nigel Bullas, managing partner at Clough & Company, said: “Clough & Company has always held an interest in the prosperity of local organisations. For us, the awards are a chance to showcase the best our region has to offer and celebrate success.”

Graeme Davy, solicitor at Gordons, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the awards which offer a great opportunity to congratulate our region’s talented and inspirational business people who have shown tremendous ability and dedication to achieving their goals, often despite adversity. We hope more businesses than ever will come forward.”

Established by Stephen Waud, fund director of the Bradford-based Business Enterprise Fund, the awards have attracted an increasing level of entries over the past three years.

Winners receive a cash prize in categories including best new start, fastest growing business, enterprise through innovation, contribution to the community and business of the year. Stephen Waud said: “These awards create a sense of achievement for those who never thought they could make it.”
