Doves St George’s Hall If this tour is Doves’ going-away present, they leave their fans with plenty of fond memories this evening.

At the end of this run, the Manchester trio are set to embark on an hiatus to work on other projects but they’re going out with a bang.

The intimate surroundings of St George’s Hall were suited to their rich, soaring sound. Despite their success, including two UK number one albums, Doves retain an almost cult following , fuelled by their refreshing humility and warmth.

Recently released best-of LP The Places Between catalogues a 12-year career during which the boys have never lost sight of their roots. From foot-stompers Black and White Town and Pounding to the more melodic sounds of Winter Hill, it was seamless. Let’s hope they’re not away long.
