Bradford-born former GMTV presenter Gloria De Piero narrowly won the Ashfield seat following a recount.
De Piero polled 16,239 - less than 200 more than the 16,047 cast for Jason Zadrozny. Labour's majority going into the election was more than 10,000 in the Nottinghamshire constituency.
The seat was formerly held by former defence secretary Geoff Hoon, who earlier stepped down as an MP.
Liberal Democrat Jason Zadrozny, 29, fought hard to win the seat since being selected.
