THE Airedale and Wharfedale Bowling Association will start its programme of matches for the 2006 season on Saturday, April 8, when Divisions One and Two start.

On Monday, April 10, all four divisions in the Monday Singles start their games with a 6.15 pm start to include five jacks.

On Wednesday, April 12, the Wednesday Singles commence in all three divisions with games starting at 2 pm. The Wednesday Evening Pairs League commences in all four divisions at 6.15 pm on the same date.

Bowlers at the flat green at Ben Rhydding Sports Club have made great strides in preparing for the new season. Play finished in October last year and immediately work started to replace the old clubhouse - a linked pair of well-weathered static caravans.

A new building tailored by the membership to the needs of players and their visitors has now been erected.

Hard work was put in searching for funds from various charitable sources and it will be possible to cater and socialise during and after play in much more comfort and style than before.

The new, principally wooden building is the result of the combined ingenuity, expertise and dedicated effort of members.

President Arnie Eklid extends a warm invitation to newcomers whether they be experienced bowlers or not."A pastime that was good enough for Sir Francis Drake is good enough for today's young and old alike," he said.
