THE Attack Snooker Centre in Nuneaton saw the final stages of the English Grand Masters Billiards and Steve Crosland from Burley-in-Wharfedale made a remarkable fightback to win the event.
In the quarter-final he defeated Dennis Marr 481-287 with the help of three breaks of 110, 86 and 59.
In the semi-finals he faced Peter Shelley and with some consistent play the Yorkshireman had a break of 75 and won 451-357.
In the final Crosland faced Charlie Gay who had beaten Brian Harvey 478-241 in the quarter-finals and then Bill Andress 496-337 in the semi-final.
In the final Gay took a lead with a 90 break but Crosland hit back with a break of 63. Gay took a more comfortable lead with a 54 break but Crosland kept fighting back and with less than five minutes to go and being 30 behind Crosland took the match by 16 points beating Gay 457-441 to become the 2005 English Grand Masters Champion. Steve also took the highest break for th competition as well.
