Farsley Celtic have the first of three chances to cap their season with a cup tonight when they take on Stocks-bridge Park Steels in the UniBond League Challenge Cup final.

They still have the West Riding County Cup final to look forward to against Conference North side Harrogate Town on Wednesday week and have not given up hope of landing the trophy that comes with the Premier Division title.

Of the three opportunities to land some silverware, tonight's is arguably the best.

The Celts have home advantage, following a draw on live television, over a side from the lower tier of the UniBond League.

Stocksbridge, who agreed to the one-off conclusion on the night rather than a two-legged final, are themselves in the midst of a promotion battle.

They did not want to add to their fixture congestion as they strive for a place in the Premier Division.

Past holders of the League Cup include Wigan Athletic and Macclesfield Town but the only previous Yorkshire winners were Scarborough.

The game has created so much interest in the area that live commentary will be on BBC Radio Leeds and Farsley chairman Andy Firbank will be making a second appearance on Look North tonight.

"It was always going to be a high-profile game and after working hard for eight months the players deserve to be playing for a medal," said Celts boss Lee Sinnott, a man who has tasted the atmosphere at Wembley on FA Cup final day in his time at Watford. "It is an exciting time for the players and the club. The County Cup final is just over a week away and both games give us a respite from the pressure of playing for points in the promotion chase.

"But towards the end of a long season what do you want? To be treading water, out of the cups and in mid-table, or

challenging for honours and in the hunt for medals. I think I know what the players' answer would be and hopefully the supporters'.

"That will be what I will be reminding the lads of in the team talk. I will be telling them that nothing is won yet and asking them to dig deep and put in yet another big performance.

"If we win nothing I want all of the squad to have no regrets. If they give their best tonight and in the other big games that follow then they will have no reason to regret anything. They will have done as much as they can."

Firbank is expecting a bumper crowd for the final and the pitch to be in good condition.

"There is the small matter of £3,000 prize money for the winners and the prestige of being the first club from the area to lift the cup. And this is a nice distraction to what is the main aim - reaching the Conference North," said Firbank.

"We know it will have every possibility of being a good game because we are very

fortunate to have Palmer Landscapes looking after our pitch. The good management of the surface by the groundstaff under John Palmer's company has paid big dividends."
