Ipswich Town striker Dean McDonald is NOT on Colin Todd's summer shopping list.

Reports in East Anglia claimed that City and Blackpool were leading the chase for the 20-year-old, who is not being kept on at Portman Road.

Former Arsenal trainee McDonald spent a month on loan at Hartlepool earlier in the season and caught the eye with a lively performance in their 1-0 win over the Bantams in November.

But Todd today made it clear he would not be joining the queue for the Tractor Boys speedster's services.

He said: "I spoke to Joe Royle to ask which players he would be letting go at the end of the season. McDonald's name came up but he's not the player for me."

Todd is drawing up his plans for a

summer rebuild, with up to 15 of his squad out of contract at the end of June.

He plans to sit down with chairman Julian Rhodes, possibly this week, to make a final decision. The City boss is waiting to be told the size of the player budget he will be operating with and whether the on-going investment talks could have a positive impact.

But the threat of relegation has all but disappeared after Saturday's 4-2 win over Scunthorpe lifted the Bantams up to tenth in League One and nine points clear of danger.

It is the biggest cushion City have enjoyed from the drop zone since mid-January, although Todd insists there is still room for improvement.

He said: "The one thing that mystifies me is our lack of consistency. We can play that well for 45 minutes in the second half against Scunthorpe but haven't done it for longer.

"You are never going tocontrol a game over the whole 90 minutes but if the going gets a bit tough, I still expect us to scrap and fight for the ball and keep our standards up.

"There was a period on Saturday when we made it uncomfortable for ourselves when it shouldn't have been. We have to be better than that and show more of the form we produced in the second half."

Todd believes Craig Bentham's driving display during the City fightback has sent out a message to the rest of the midfield.

He said: "Craig came in and certainly didn't disappoint myself or his team-mates. The other midfielders are seeing the likes of Tom Penford coming in and now Craig doing well and that puts down a marker."

Bentham has been spared reserves duties at Rotherham tonight, a game that will see the return of Bobby Petta.

The Dutch winger has been sidelined by hamstring and calf problems since hobbling off against Bristol City in February.

Owen Morrison, Michael Symes and Tom Kearney will also play in the second-string's first game for six weeks.

City will give a run-out to former Darlington winger Jason St Juste, a product of the Brazilian soccer school at Leeds.

St Juste joined Southamp-ton at the start of the season but was released after only a handful of reserve games. He also recently had a trial with Huddersfield.
