Fashion guru Wayne Hemingway is to unveil a new organisation to promote Bradford's artists.

The outspoken founder of fashion label Red or Dead is now an award-winning figure in regeneration and urban design.

He specialises in high-quality housebuilding and cutting-edge environmental design - areas that both play a vital role in the Bradford vision.

Mr Hemingway will be at the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television on Tuesday to speak at an event to announce an organisation called Vibe.

The formation of Vibe will mark the end of the Supplyside project, which aimed to link four studios - ATOM, South Square Art Centre, Bradford Arts and Aire Valley Arts - to raise the profile of the arts in the district.

Mr Hemingway said: "These kinds of initiatives are springing up around the country and are really important both for groups of creative people and the area where they live.

"They can be massively successful not just for the people involved but also for the city.

"I have been to investigate creative things like this and they have a massive effect because businesses can tap into local designers and artists rather than going to big cities.

"It also helps create more jobs and all this is important for Bradford's well-being."

Mr Hemingway's fashion house was named because of his family history.

His father is Mohawk chief Billy Two Rivers, now a champion of native American rights in Quebec.

At the time Wayne was born, though, Billy was a heavyweight wrestling champion in Britain.

Vibe, a voluntary organisation will organise joint exhibitions, facilitate meetings on important arts issues, provide networking and mentoring and support careers.

A spokesman said: "We believe Vibe is just the start for a sustainable visual arts network offering support to all visual artists and artists' groups in Bradford district."

The group's first exhibition will be at the Yorkshire Craft Centre from September 22 to October 6.

The theme will be discussed at the first steering committee meeting at the Yorkshire Craft Centre Caf on April 6 at 6pm.
