Motorbike enthusiasts revved up to Bradford Industrial Museum today to celebrate the opening of an exhibition of the district's rich biking heritage.

World championship winning riders and bikes will all be part of the museum's Hot Metal Two display, being held in celebration of Bradford's motorcycling history.

Bikes ridden by Bradford's two great motorcycling families, the Lampkins and the Jefferies will sit alongside ancient machines, dating back as long ago as 1912.

The retrospective celebration has been organised in honour of the fact that Bradford and District Motor Club is celebrating its centenary year.

Since its foundation in 1906, the club has garnered a rich history of producing world champions.

Members of the club past and present have held regional, national and international titles.

And to mark the start of the exhibition, the museum and club was welcoming ten times world championship sidecar racing championship winner Steve "Webbo" Webster as a guest of honour.

Mick Callaghan, of Bradford Industrial Museum said: "We have got some very interesting bikes on display here.

"We have both the bike and its rider from his world championship winning race in the 50s - Peter Roydhouse, of Keighley.

"Bikes used by the Lampkin family, who have produced four generations of world champions will also be there, alongside bikes raced by Tony, David and Nick Jefferies."

More than 20 bikes will be on display at the exhibition, alongside photographs and video footage of a century of Bradford motorcycling excellence - some of which has never been seen before.

The exhibition will run until November, with a series of events planned over the coming months.

Also among the attractions will be a simulation machine allowing visitors to experience the thrill of riding round the route of the Manx Tourist Trophy (TT) in the Isle of Man - one of the most exciting motorcycle rides in the world. Without leaving the confines of the museum, visitors will be able to whip around the track at more than 200kph.

Different motorcycle groups and clubs will be coming in to view the bikes and a biking display during a May Bank Holiday.
