League Cup winner Terry Wilson has applied for the vacant Bradford Park Avenue manager's position.

Wilson, who is only 37, played 105 times for Nottingham Forest alongside Nigel Clough, Stuart Pearce and Neil Webb.

He was in Brian Clough's Forest side that beat Luton Town in the 1989 League Cup final.

Wilson, who is currently a youth coach at Sunderland, has applied in writing to succeed the sacked Gary Brook, along with several other "names" - despite the club not having officially asked for applications.

Avenue chairman Dr John Dean said: "We will be contacting all the applicants. Our present line of attack is that we are giving Brian Crowther and Steve Newton a chance on a match-by-match basis. I think it's only fair they should be given a game or two.

"Brian and Steve are getting stuck in and are really up for it. Other people have been in touch who are known but I am not prepared to divulge names.

Dean added: "We may well be looking at a holding situation until the end of the season."

Including today's home game against Gateshead, the club have just 12 league games left to steer clear of the dreaded drop zone.

Meanwhile, Avenue have won the UniBond Premier Division Endsleigh Goalscoring Award for February.

Their ten goals in four games clinched it - the problem is they let in 11!

Three of the four games were league encounters - the 4-3 home defeat to Burscough, the 3-3 draw at Witton and the 3-2 home defeat to Witton.

They also beat Burscough 2-1 away in the President's Cup quarter-final.

The prize is a presentation box of two bottles of wine, donated by Endsleigh Sports Insurance.

Avenue's director of football Alan Hirst said: "It's ironic isn't it? Obviously we'd swap the award for a couple of 1-0 wins in the league."
