Liversedge took advantage of their relatively new pitch by gaining a maximum from the visit of Maltby Main which consolidates second place in the Northern Counties East Premier Division.

They edged ahead of Sheffield at the weekend and now have

a four-point advantage over their rivals for the runners-up spot and still have two games in hand.

A brace from Craig Farrand did the damage to Maltby's challenge, the visitors hoping to bounce back after a 7-1 mauling at Eccleshill on Saturday.

Farrand volleyed in midway through the first half and steered a 25-yard free-kick into the top corner minutes into the second period.

'Sedge eased off in the freezing temperatures after that and Maltby pulled a goal back through Darren Green in the 70th minute.

"They had a game-plan and came with a mindset not to get another heavy beating after their loss at the weekend - and, to a point, they were

successful," said 'Sedge boss Eugene Lacy.

"But we got as many points from it as Eccleshill got from their meeting on Saturday, so I'm satisfied. I'm also satisfied with our pitch. In days gone by we would never have been able to get a game on in these conditions."

Elsewhere Thackley suffered a postponement because of the freezing weather but such was the late severe drop in temperature that opponents Selby Town had already travelled to Bradford.

"The pitch was inspected at 8am, lunchtime and by a local referee at 4pm and passed each time," said Thackley press

officer Stewart Willingham.

"But by 7.15pm, just half an hour before kick-off, it was solid. Everyone was hoping to see a game but it just wasn't possible and the match referee made the right decision."
