A revolutionary quit smoking treatment is coming to Bradford.

It is the first time the therapy, called bioresonance, has been used outside London.

The treatment involves hooking clients up to a machine and asking them to hold two brass balls with wires attached to the machine as a charge is passed through them.

A beaker with the remains of the client's last smoked cigarette plus their saliva is placed into the machine.

The treatment works on the theory that nicotine exerts an electromagnetic charge over the body which causes the craving to smoke.

The bioresonance machine is said to invert the energy patterns of nicotine, which are then passed to the body via electrodes, making it easier for the body to eliminate nicotine over the next 24 hours and cravings are reduced.

The technique was discovered by a Polish doctor while doing detoxification and allergy treatments.

A clinic will be held at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, in Cottingley, on Tuesday, March 14.

The £250 price tag for a one-hour session has not put off would-be non-smokers who have already ensured the clinic is a sell-out.

It has been organised by a company called Healthvibes, which has been helping smokers to quit at their clinic in Croydon, south London.

But due to demand from the people of Bradford it now plans to hold regular clinics in the district.

Lesley Hannan, 59, of Thornton Road, Fairweather Green, quit her 45-year smoking habit at the London clinic in September last year.

Mrs Hannan, who works as a receptionist in A&E at Bradford Royal Infirmary, decided to try the technique after seeing it reviewed on television.

She was desperate to quit smoking before BRI turned smoke-free in January. "I work long shifts and I would not have been able to do that without a cigarette," she said.

Along with her son Neil, 30, also of Bradford, she managed to quit and has not smoked since. They were so impressed by the results they asked for clinics to be held in Bradford so other people could benefit from this revolutionary treatment.

Now many of her hospital colleagues plan to take part in the clinic.

Mrs Hannan said: "My son and I were both heavy smokers and had tried various methods of giving up smoking but never managed to kick the habit.

"We really cannot believe that after one session of treatment at the Healthvibes clinic, we are both nicotine-free.

"What was more astonishing was how easy the whole process was. The nicotine cravings disappeared immediately.

"I have not coughed since, my sense of smell is clearer and I should imagine I am a lot healthier.

"I just hope this works for other people the way it has for me. It is the best money I ever spent."

The company claims the treatment has a 70 per cent success rate after a one hour session and a 90 per cent success rate after two. The first session costs £250 and if it is unsuccessful subsequent sessions are free.

Savita Bhandari, of Healthvibes clinic, said: "You either want to quit or you don't. Our therapy just makes quitting that much easier. The most appealing factor about the treatment is that it is completely painless, chemical-free and non-invasive. Your body does most of the work itself."
