A Holy Family School teacher will be hurling herself out of a plane to help a charity which supports vulnerable youngsters.

Beverley Minor, above, will make the charity parachute jump tomorrow at Brigg airfield near Scunthorpe.

The money will go towards the National Children's Home, (NCH).

The 26-year-old French and Spanish teacher, who lives in Leeds, said: "I've always wanted to do a charity jump so when I saw this advertised I couldn't really say no.

"I'm looking forward to it, though I know I'll be completely terrified when I have to jump out of the plane."

She said she had never done a parachute jump before and was not an extreme sports fanatic either.

However, she has done parascending -- a sport in which people are attached to a parachute then towed behind a speedboat.

She added friends and family had been very supportive but she was not yet sure how much money she would manage to raise.

Before she makes the jump she will have to complete six hours of training on the same day.

She will learn how to steer the parachute canopy towards the landing zone and how to make a comfortable and controlled landing.

She will then make a single solo jump from 3,000 feet, attached to a 'static line'.

This is designed to automatically open her parachute as soon as she jumps from the aircraft.

She said she had the opportunity to jump in tandem with an experienced parachutist but thought the solo option would be more enjoyable.
