Guiseley 0 Wakefield Emley 1

Guiseley watched their hopes of a play-off place slip further away after a lacklustre performance against their old rivals.

Disappointed supporters left Nethermoor uninspired after their team's second home defeat in a row.

They had little to smile about as hard-working Guiseley struggled to find the net and had few shots on target despite dominating play.

The down-hearted crowd jeered as ex-captain Richard Chattoe returned to his old stomping ground as Wakefield skipper and helped put the boot in his old club.

Guiseley got off to a shaky start on the bitter-cold afternoon and were stunned to concede a penalty after just seven minutes.

Wakefield's Adam Muller was fouled in the area, giving former Guiseley striker Mick Norbury chance to put one past their Yorkshire rivals.

But the strike seemed to bring uninspired Guiseley back to life and they began to enjoy the majority of possession.

Scott Jackson was again their most dangerous player and was unlucky to have a strike saved after 11 minutes.

He tried again four minutes later but his right foot shot slid wide of the mark. Neil Grayston also failed to find the net with a wide shot after 24 minutes.

Luck was not with the flagging side as they failed to convert a host of chances. They appeared to have the edge on their rivals but had few shots on target.

A handball appeal in the area after 33 minutes could have evened the score but Guiseley were once more denied.

The Emley 'keeper was not troubled again until new signing Tony Lennon, brother of Tottenham's Arron, saw his left foot shot find the wrong side of the post just before half- time.

In the second-half Danny Ellis found his form and made two good attacks on goal but his 55th minute header was just wide of the post and his 75th minute strike was well blocked.

Guiseley searching for a goal continued to have more time on the ball but failed to convert a flurry of corners and free-kicks.

When in possession, Wakefield continued to look dangerous and home 'keeper Matt Taylor did well to keep the score at 1-0.

After 65 minutes worried manager Neil Parsley replaced Steve Ball and Andy Lee to try and tip the balance. Substitutes Mark Stuart and Danny Forrest brought more pace but the ailing home side still failed to find the back of the net.

As the game - and their chances of a promotion play-off place - ebbed away, the desperate Guiseley players finally started to produce some on-target chances.

Scott Jackson looked lively with an 85th minute right foot shot but Guiseley were blocked once more. David Cooke shot wide three minutes later.

Perhaps the best chance of the match came in the final minute when a powerful strike from young sub Danny Forrest was saved.

The disappointed team will now struggle to make the UniBond League play-off positions and need to swiftly get back to their winning ways when they tackle Witton Albion at home on Saturday (3pm).
