One of Keighley's many lost places of worship, this was Lund Park Wesleyan Chapel as seen on the front of a Souvenir Birthday Calendar compiled by its members in 1927 and photographed when, judging by the empty foreground, houses on the opposite side of Malsis Road were not fully developed.

The church -- the nearer building -- dated from 1895. By 1910 its adjoining Sunday School had 63 teachers and 366 scholars.

In their heyday such suburban chapels could wield a strong influence in their communities.

In 1911, when the new Oxford Hall Picture Palace applied for a Music and Dancing License, Lund Park Wesleyans joined neighbouring Knowle Park Congregationalists and Oakworth Road Primitive Methodists in protesting to the magistrates, who accordingly granted only an Instrumental License.

Similarly, when in 1908 Keighley Corporation proposed to site a urinal at the bottom of Fell Lane, Knowle Park Congregational Mission led local residents in getting it quashed.

The photograph was supplied by 88-year-old Mrs Dorothy Watson, now of Addingham, who remembers "many happy Sunday School events" at Lund Park.
