Bradford University has been named the best in the world for international students.

The university's International Office topped a global poll measuring overseas students' views.

It beat off competition from prestigious British universities such as Cambridge, Durham and Edinburgh and other institutions in America, Australia and New Zealand to pick up the title.

Almost a quarter of Bradford University's students come from overseas. They are recruited from more than 100 countries.

Almost 600 overseas students in Bradford were among 8,408 students from 25 universities who took part in the International Student Barometer poll run by international research company I-Graduate.org.

Dr Haydn Bartlett, the director of the university's international office, said: "I am delighted at this excellent news. To achieve the highest satisfaction amongst a group of prestigious universities is a true testament to the quality of services staff in the international office provide.

"This is also great news for any prospective international students thinking about coming to Bradford. The university enrols students from more than 100 different countries and around 22 per cent of Bradford's students are from outside the UK."

The university's international office works to recruit overseas students from across the world. The office provides a one-stop service for prospective students which deals with everything from applications to accommodation and airport collections.

Once students arrive they receive a one-week international-orientation course to help them adapt to life in Bradford.

And the office provides a range of cultural activities throughout the year to help students settle in, along with regular guidance.

I-graduate.org director William Archer said: "This is recognition for an office more international in its staffing than any other I have encountered in the UK, engaging with students from first inquiry to post graduation."
