The name's Barnes. Pete Barnes. OK, it doesn't have the same ring to it as James Bond, but Pete is ready for a role in an 007 film

Pete Barnes, 43, a relief pilot with Yorkshire Air Ambulance, will appear alongside new Bond Daniel Craig in the next 007 movie Casino Royale.

"It's going to be really exciting because there are a lot of aerial-based stunts," he said.

"I will be helping to co-ordinate the stunts and filming of them but I also appear as a Cuban pilot."

Pete is no stranger to the big screen. He was in the last Bond film Die Another Day with Pierce Brosnan.

"I really enjoyed taking part in that and it was great when they asked me to appear again," said Pete, who has been a pilot for 18 years.

"This is a very specialist field so there aren't many people who can do it."

Filming on the 21st Bond film has already started and Pete said it was being filmed mainly in the Bahamas, Prague and the United States.

"I will fly out to join them later this month in Prague," he said.

The experienced pilot flies most aircraft but in the Bond film he will be flying an aircraft similar to the Air Ambulance - an MD520.

Pete has run his own company, called Helivision, for the last seven years. When he is not appearing on the big screen most of his work comes from contract work flying the rich and famous to destinations around the world.

He flew Angelina Jolie into the Live 8 concert and regularly flies Prime Ministers and Government ministers across the globe.

Pete co-ordinated the air stunts for the last Olympic Games in Athens.

He has been a relief pilot for the Air Ambulance for eight years.

"I really enjoy the air ambulance work," said Pete who lives in Ascot, Berkshire.

"It's a constant challenge and very satisfying knowing that you are helping to save someone's life."

Martin Needs, chief executive of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity, said it was wonderful news about Pete's role in the new Bond film.

"Pete is a brilliant pilot and we are really pleased about his role in the Bond film," he said. "It really helps with our work to have pilots of Pete's calibre flying with us.

"All our pilots are fantastic and their flying skills help save lives on a regular basis.

"One day they could be landing an aircraft in a supermarket car park and the next it could be on a mountain.

"Their flying ability enables paramedics to get as close to the patient as possible to deliver first aid rapidly."
