The Liversedge players got another night off after their Northern Counties East League Cup quarter-final tie at home to Parkgate was postponed for a second time in the same week.

The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday - St Valentine's Day - but was put back 24 hours because so many of the squad had prior engagements. Last night's second date was a wash-out, a waterlogged pitch at Clayborn making it impossible for any play.

"The decision was made at about 3pm because they had a longish journey," said Sedge manager Eugene Lacy.

"They had to come from Rotherham in what would have been the rush hour, it's not a nice trip. It was only fair to let them know as soon as possible and there was standing water so it was straightforward.

"It stopped us giving a debut to Liam Brompton. He has joined us from Bradford Park Avenue and as far as I know it isn't a loan move. The ins and outs of it don't bother me, all I know is that we have a good- quality right back."

The cup tie was not the only postponement on the night. Avenue manager Gary Brook had arranged a behind-closed- doors friendly with Eccleshill United but that was also shelved.

"Gary rang me and asked if we could provide a team for a practice game and we jumped at the chance," said United boss Ray Price. "We turned up with 18 players but the pitch was waterlogged."
