An aid worker for a Bradford-based charity is appealing for donations to keep coming in to help meet the needs of survivors of the South Asian earthquake.

The Human Relief Foundation (HRF), based on Claremont in Great Horton, has been able to set up a tent village in Thuri Park in the district of Muzaffarabad for 2,116 people.

The cost of running the village is going to be around £10,000 which will provide food, medicine, fuel and anything else the villagers need.

Yousaf Razaq, project co-ordinator for the charity, has just returned from the region having spent seven weeks setting up the camp.

He urged Bradford residents to keep supporting the work of HRF so that the village can keep going.

"We don't need items here in the UK, everything can be bought at a fraction of the cost over there - all we require is your donation in the form of money.

"The cost of sending items from the UK is too expensive; therefore, it makes sense for the Foundation to purchase all the items in Pakistan," said Mr Razaq.

The charity is also working on providing 32 communal kitchens for the camp which will cost around £20,000.

Each kitchen will provide facilities for around 12 families. As well as building 16 bathrooms with hot water costing around £3,500 and a vocational training centre for the widows in the park costing £4,000.

Anyone who would like to find out more about any of the projects should contact HRF by calling 08700 117 112.

A number of schools across the district including St Aidans Church of England High School, Bradford Grammar School and Belle Vue Boys School have donated money to HRF and part of this money will be used to buy equipment for the playing area for around 450 children in Thuri Park.

Mr Razaq was very grateful to the children and their parents for digging deep in their pockets to put a smile on the face of suffering.
