A printing firm boss is calling for police to step up patrols after a spate of vandal attacks at his premises.

Richard Marchewka believes teenagers are responsible and is offering a reward to catch them.

Mr Marchewka, who owns Birch printers at Beck Mill, Revasyke Road, Clayton, claimed youngsters has had windows smashed at his company on four occasions in the last couple of months, causing £500 worth of damage.

In one of the latest incidents two windows were broken while Mr Marchewka was still on the premises.

He said: "Usually the attacks happen at night or on a weekend, when nobody is here, but this time I was still working. I heard the sound of the windows being broken and went outside, but the culprits had run away.

"I am sure it is teenagers who are doing this. I have spoken to a group who gather in the park. There were about 25 of them, aged about 14, mostly boys. They said they knew who had been causing the damage but didn't want to grass on them.

"Elderly people living locally have also had eggs thrown at their windows.

"These kids are causing a nuisance and nothing is being done about it. It is very frustrating.

"The police say that even if you identify who is responsible, if they deny it, it is your word against theirs. You basically have to catch them in the act. I don't know what to do."

Mr Marchewka said he had an alarm system but was now considering security shutters, though it would be expensive to fit.

He added: "I am willing to offer a £100 reward for information that leads to someone being caught.

"I would like to see a more visible police presence, it might put the kids on the defensive. We never see any police patrolling about."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said officers were are aware of the vandalism and had spoken to Mr Marchewka about crime prevention measures.

He added: "Officers are aware of the incidents and have been increasing patrols in the area." "Anyone with information should contact Bradford North Police on (01274) 376259.
