Victoria Rangers were the only local side into the hat for the GMB Union National Cup third-round draw after a dismal weekend in the amateur game's flagship competition for Bradford's big guns.

Rangers were rewarded with a plum home tie against National Conference outfit Eastmoor Dragons following a thrilling 30-24 win against Pennine colleagues Park Amateurs at Eccleshill.

The Vics looked to be coasting when they racked up a 20-6 half-time advantage through touchdowns from centre Danny Dixon, hooker Ray Greenwood and prop Alan Smith.

But the Halifax visitors made a dramatic comeback to take the lead and it needed a try from substitute Carl Williams to put Rangers back in the hunt only two points adrift at 26-24.

With the clock ticking down, centre Karl Wroe then scooted over for the winning try and Len Dalladay slotted over his fifth goal to make absolutely sure of the spoils.

Elsewhere, Queensbury lost the Tetleys Yorkshire Cup final rehearsal 22-8 against Sharlston Rovers at Hill Top.

'Bury were very much in the hunt when narrowly behind 12-8 at the interval, wingman Karl Smith having scored two smart tries.

But Sharlston shut up shop on the restart and ground out a win to go through, although there was little to choose between two good teams.

Clayton made a nonsense of their lowly Pennine Premier Division position to give Conference opponents Milford Marlins the fright of their lives at Lidget Green.

The villagers recovered from a 12-0 deficit to take a 24-12 lead after an hour thanks to cracking tries from wingman Danny McDonald, hooker Phil Redgrave, loose forward Craig Pickthall and a touchdown and four conversions from Danny Belcher.

Milford clawed back to level pegging and then pinched the tie with a bizarre 40-metre drop goal that swirled over in the wind to make the final score 25-24 in their favour.

Lancashire selectors sang Dudley Hill's praises for their sporting behaviour in a 36-10 defeat at Latchford Albion, while Undercliffe face the possibility of a heavy fine after failing to fulfil their tie at Thatto Heath.

In Pennine League Division One, free-scoring Birkenshaw centre Morton Robinson claimed a hat-trick in his side's 30-24 success at Thornhill Trojans.

Wingman Andy Price and Richard Rhodes joined him on the scoresheet, with Matt Honeysett kicking all the conversions.

Stand-off Andy Hirst ran the show from start to finish to walk off with the man-of-the-match award.

Bank Top Harriers shrugged off a lack of recent activity due to postponements

to win 26-6 at Stainland Stags in Division Three - despite having Jason Gelder sent off after just three minutes for alleged abusive language.

The referee disrupted the flow of the game by awarding a succession of penalties but Harriers were always on top after

conceding an early try, with Mark Bailey, Bob Brown, Craig French and Adam Gillard touching down. Brown added five goals.

Wyke hammered hosts Sheffield Hillsbo-rough Hawks 62-0 in Division Four.

James Barraclough and Mick Buttrick scored hat-tricks and Paul Woodhead (2), Alan Binns, Mark Frith and Paul Coates joined in the 11-try romp, with Craig Hillam slotting nine conversions.

Wyke A were not so impressive in Division Six, losing 30-6 away to Keighley Town A. Veteran Steve Housen scored the consolation effort and Mick Wormald tagged on the extras.
