The latest play to be performed at Malsis School in Cross Hills will see the lead role of Peter Pan played by a girl.

Harriet Bannister of Sutton in Craven, a year eight pupil at the school was selected following auditions for the colourful production.

The part of the villain, Pirate Captain Hook is being played by Gregor Dickie, a year six boy from Ilkley.

The role of Wendy has gone to Bryony Whitaker - also from Ilkley.

The performance will take place at Malsis at the beginning of December.

Malsis school spokesmen Debbie Goodson said staging the play would be a tough undertaking.

"The performance features a lively musical score and backstage technical intricacies that would challenge even the most professional theatre groups," she said.

However she added the school has plenty of experience, having put on impressive, quality productions such as the Mikado, The Witches and Wind in the Willows.

The children have been rehearsing since the start of term under the guidance of Director and parent Amelia Whitaker and Choreographer and Stage Manager Glenda McKenna, who teaches at the school.
