WHARFEDALE will need to show the same qualities they displayed at Blackheath last Saturday when they entertain a strong Waterloo side at the Avenue tomorrow (writes Mike Crowther).

The Greens showed a ruthless streak in making the most of their few try-scoring opportunities to gain a bonus-point victory in South London. And they also produced a disciplined defensive display under some intense pressure from the hosts late on.

Dale are likely to find it tough up front against tomorrow's visitors who have one of the biggest packs in the league. So what the Greens can produce with a limited amount of ball could be crucial.

"I'm guessing, but I think they could be two stone a man heavier than us," said Wharfedale head coach John Lawn.

"They also have strong, hard-running players in the backs, so they will provide a big challenge.

"We must make sure we win our set piece ball and then it is about what we can do with it. We must keep the ball alive as long as possible, minimise our mistakes, and when they have got the ball, make sure our defence is good and harry them into making a turnover."

The selectors make two changes to the starting line-up with Craig Ingram starting in place of fellow prop Neil Dickinson and John Newton coming in at scrum half for James Doherty.

Lawn said: "We have two very good scrum halves and both need to be playing. John is a little bit more physical than James who is still only a young lad. John will add some solidity to the team."
