PARENTS and friends of a school for children with special needs are celebrating the return of the school's cherished name.
Green Meadows in Guiseley was in danger of losing its identity after becoming part of the multi-site North West Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC).
But following overwhelming opposition by staff and parents, Green Meadows has won back its name.
David Jakes, head teacher of Green Meadows School within the North West SILC, said: "When we consulted parents, staff and pupils about the name of the school, the overwhelming response was to be called Green Meadows again.
"However, Green Meadows is still part of the North West Specialist Learning Centre. We are all delighted with this decision as Green Meadows is a name pupils, staff and the wider community can identify with."
Councillor John Bale (Con, Guiseley and Rawdon) said: "The special schools in North West Leeds were merged at the beginning of this year to form the NW Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) and the individual schools including Green Meadows were re-badged as sites within the SILC.
"Everyone was sad to see the name Green Meadows School disappear, and I'm delighted that it has now been reinstated."
