Ardsley Celtic 2

Otley Town 0

Normally when these two teams meet at Ardsley the matches are very tight and competitive affairs with Town usually getting the upperhand. With two good wins in the District and County Cups behind them Town were quietly confident of getting a good result on Saturday particularly with the introduction of new signings Paul Newsome and Oliver Metcalfe.

The early exchanges suggested that the game was going to be very tight with few chances being created but Town suffered a severe blow in the 15th minute when young centre-back Chris Milner badly damaged an eye and had to be taken to hospital.

This affected the team's rhythm and although the players worked hard they failed to create any clear cut chances. James Davies was the busier of the two 'keepers but Ardsley didn't really threaten.

The second-half was pretty much more of the same and it looked all set for a scoreless draw when the home side were awarded a free-kick just inside their own half. The ball was sent long into the Town box eluding the centre-backs leaving the Ardsley striker with a simple finish.

This prompted greater activity from Town who were unlucky not to equalise when a Dave Conway header came back off the bar and was scrambled away. Late on Liam Robinson had an opportunity to level things but failed to connect.

An injury to Ian Wolfenden rounded off a bad day for the visitors.

On Saturday Town visit Nethermoor Park to play Guiseley Reserves in the Wharfedale FA District Cup. This will be a big test for the Otley boys who are plagued with a lot of injuries. Kick-off 1.30pm.

Otley Town Reserves 9

Hunsworth Reserves 0

Otley Town Reserves maintained this season's 100per cent record with a comprehensive 9-0 demolition of Hunsworth. Hunsworth, from Birkenshaw, proved to be poor opposition.

Despite three changes to the starting line up, Otley continued their hard working ethic and free flowing football which has seen them top the West Riding Reserve Division Two.

Chris Alderson must have included his shooting boots in his kit bag for he managed a hat-trick in this game and might have had two. The youngster, Luke Danskin, who seems to be competing with Alderson for the leading goalscorer trophy was playing for the third team and yet again, did not disappoint, by getting one of the three scored at Kirkby.

Graham Hutchison, making his first appearance of the season, opened the scoring within the first five minutes, his shot looping over the 'keeper following a corner. The goal seemed to relax Otley and they attacked at every opportunity forcing the Hunsworth 'keeper into some fine saves.

However, he could do nothing to prevent Otley's second, Chris Alderson rounding of through the 'keeper's legs and this was soon followed by Sam Dexter's well placed finish from the edge of the box after good work out wide by Michael Jordan.

Otley's fourth and final goal before half-time was the pick of the game, with almost everyone player touching the ball. Play started in Otley's back four and switched from side to side before Danny Royston received the ball on the edge of the box and accurately shot into the bottom corner.

Hunsworth started the brighter of the two in the second-half but, despite boasting the league's top scorer, could not make their possession result in a shot. Otley's dominance resumed after ten minutes and they went on to score five second-half goals.

Chris Alderson completed his hat-trick with two goals as well as unselfishly squaring the ball in the box for Michael Jordan to register. Graham Hutchison added his second after a mistake by the visiting 'keeper and Jimmy Bowe added his first home goal of the season, beating the full-back for pace and finishing high into the net.

Player-Coach Mark Currie entered the fray and played along side his son, Joe. Currie replaced the injured Jordan, and almost made an immediate impact, narrowly chipping over the bar. Otley continued to press for more goals and Jordan Beaumont shot narrowly wide with a deft touch from an incisive pass from Bowe.

Defensively, this team is very strong, having conceded only three goals in the league this season.

The final whistle came to confirm Otley's 14th straight victory but they know much stiffer opposition awaits on S aturday with the visit of Golcar who they defeated 3-1 on the opening day of the season. Kick-off is at 2pm.

Kirkby Malzeard 3

Otley Town A 3

With manager Paddy Campbell absent through illness and his assistant Dave Crombleholme away on business, Reserve team manager Martin Ibbotson and Peter Nithsdale were looking after the Harrogate Premier Division side.

Ibbotson is beginning to realise that this league is not going to be easy to win as the standard has stepped up with the introduction of the Garforth Town and Eccleshill United teams, alongside the existing strong sides in this top division.

With the home side 3-1 up, the half-time team talk from Ibbotson impressed Nithsdale, who said that it had the desired effect: "The Otley boys obviously listened and did well to come back and get a result from a game that they could have won in the end," he said.

l On Saturday Town A are at home to Pannal Sports, a team that has proved worthy opposition over the last couple of seasons. Kick-off 2.15pm.

Otley Town B 0

Boroughbridge 1

Otley Town B entertained Boroughbridge A and were very unlucky to lose. Manager Gary Johnson was delighted by the way the team played and they deserved at least a point from this game which Boro won against the run of play. Town B visit Empress in a league game on Saturday, kick-off 2.15pm.
