Ilkley B 52

Old Brods 12

Following last weeks 61-7 rout of Roundhegians, Ilkley Thirds took to the field expecting tougher opposition, and received it for the first 20 minutes as Brods matched Ilkley man for man.

The deadlock was broken however when Jonny Shanks broke through the centre to open the scoring.

Shanks followed up with another two tries as did Nixon, Richardson, Ince, Widdop and Rhodes.

It was a tougher performance than the score reflects but Ilkley were demanding of themselves and produced a trademark display of patience before the scoring doors opened.

Ilkley U-15s 22

Sheffield 12

Ilkley Under-15s roared into life in this tough fixture, and Sheffield had no idea what hit them as Ilkley went ahead in the first five minutes with a superb line catch and drive from Dave Russell.

Ilkley increased their lead five minutes later as the ball passed through six sets of hands within Sheffield's five metre line for Chris O'Connor to touch down on the left side.

The boys produced the finest display this season both in attack and defence as Sheffield refused to give up and countered whenever Ilkley let them have the ball.

Another fine back move was finished off by fullback James Lindsay, and the game was put beyond doubt when winger Laurie Connor left his opposition wing and full-back on the ground as he arced around them to score with five minutes to go.

This was an uncompromising and polished performance from the youngsters, and a repeat performance will be required this weekend as they take on Roundhegians at home in the Yorkshire Cup, 11 am.
