IT may have seemed a backward step for rising young soccer star Danny Forrest when his club Bradford City loaned him out to Conference side Halifax Town. However, Forrest has no regrets at all with his loan switch to The Shay.

The City striker has played ten games for the Conference side - mainly in right midfield.

"I have only played up front for 20 minutes so far but it adds another string to my bow. I have scored once but had a hand in quite a few goals which I am happy about.

"If I can learn to play in a new position then surely it can't be bad for my all-round game."

City have assured Forrest he still has a future at Valley Parade after his season-long stint with the Shaymen ends.

They have been checking his progress, although the 20-year-old was on the bench when Colin Todd watched Halifax beat Bury in the LDV Vans Trophy this week.

Forrest added: "Halifax are right up there and in with a shout and I am playing regularly so I've no complaints. Before Tuesday, I had started the previous seven which is the first time I've had a run that long since the youth team.

"I still think I'm at 90-95 per cent but the sharpness is coming all the time. Obviously I want to be up there and scoring goals but I'm just delighted to be in the side every week.

"Without being disrespectful, the standard is far better than I expected. It's really not much different from the Football League.

"We went round the dressing room the other night and every single player had pretty much appeared in the League for a big chunk of their career so it's good experience for me and I'm sure I will come back to City a better player."
