SIX years of dedication by a select group of writers has resulted in the ultimate history book for Lothersdale.

The idea for Reflections of Lothersdale - A Social History from 1896 to 2000 was sparked in 1999 as a millennium project for the parish council.

The editorial team included Robin and Gilly Cuzner, Mike Gover, Julia Tulloch and Neil Wilson and researchers included Kath Smith and Judy Wood.

The 228-pages include chapters on Lothersdale Young Farmers, Mothers' Union, Women's Institute and parish council.

And extracts from Craven Herald also feature.

The illustrated book follows The History of Lothersdale, written by Kenneth Wilson in 1972.

Mr Cuzner, on behalf of the writers, said: "The Millennium Group believes the foreword, acknowledgements and text of 'Reflections of Lothersdale' fully explain its provenance.

"The book has already won some golden opinions from senior residents and perhaps the advent of the 22nd century may be marked by a second volume.

"The group wishes to emphasise its thanks to Craven District Council for its £500 community grant and to Lothersdale Parish Trust, whose timely loan made the project viable."

The book is available from Alley Books in Skipton, Reids Bookshop in Keighley and Cononley Post Office. Prices range from £12 to £12.95.

All proceeds will go to Lothersdale Parish Council.
