The totesport Cesarewitch, second leg of the "Autumn Double," is the big betting handicap on Saturday's superb Champion's Day card at Newmarket, with every other race holding Group status.

The Cesarewitch, to be run over 2m 2f at 3.45, will feature a maximum of 36 runners, with Nicky Henderson's Afrad, the mount of Kieren Fallon, installed as the worthy 6/1 ante-post favourite midweek, closely followed by Jamie Poulton's Land 'n Stars and Sir Mark Prescott's Elusive Dreams, both quoted at 8/1.

The six-year-old Sergeant Cecil, who has already landed two major handicaps this season - the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle and the Ebor at York - must also come into the reckoning at 10/1, though is plenty high enough in the weights.

However, I like the look of Patrick Haslam's King Revo, who appeared unlucky in running in both the Ascot Stakes at York in June and the Chester Cup the previous month. The trainer is bang in form and with Philip Robinson due to partner King Revo for the first time, I rate the five-year-old as a major each contender at 16/1.

The Cesarewitch is the final leg of four live Channel 4 rollover Scoop6 races from Headquarters. The meeting begins at 2.05 with a seven furlongs Group 2 contest, in which the Irish-trained Caradak will be popular under Mick Kinane. Others for the shortlist are Soldier's Tale (Jamie Spencer), New Seeker (Dane O'Neill) and Iffraaj (Philip Robinson).

Two top-class Group 1 races follow. The big contest for two-year-olds is the Dewhurst Stakes over seven furlongs at 2.35, which features no less than seven Aiden O'Brien entries. However, Kieren Fallon is down to ride either of two unbeaten horses - the famously named George Washington or Horatio Nelson. His final choice must be respected, though there are plenty of other high-class contenders.

The 1m 2f Champion Stakes at 2.30 is another cracker, with the French raiders Pinson and Prospect Park, the former is unbeaten, interesting entries, along with the Sir Michael Stoute duo Maraahel and Chic. Aiden O'Brien also holds three entries and Fallon's choice will again be a pointer. David Junior is another for the shortlist, along with Rakti if he behaves himself. Fascinating stuff, but I have a feeling one of the French raiders may take this.

The two other Scoop6 legs are the opening races at both Catterick and Huntingdon. Sir Michael Stoute's Mutamarres is impossible to ignore in the 2.10 nursery at Catterick, while over the sticks at Huntingdon, Peter Bowen is set to run both Celtic Boy (Richard Johnson) and Swansea Bay (Tony Dobbin) in the three miles handicap chase at 2.20. One of them should oblige.

Redcar's 2005 season on the flat concludes today/tomorrow (Fri) with a seven-race programme, which is scheduled to start at 2.15, while Pontefract's concluding meeting is on Monday. This Saturday's selections have potential alternatives in brackets to broaden Scoop6 chances.
