WHARFEDALE'S recently-crowned player of the month Simon Horsfall gets the chance to play in his favourite position of full back tomorrow in the Powergen Trophy fourth round tie at Westoe (writes Mike Crowther).

The 20-year-old has played on the wing since stepping up to the senior side and five tries in four league matches from that position earned him the National League Two player of the month for September.

But Horsfall admits the number 15 shirt is his preferred position, having played there for his school team and for the Dale colts. He gets his chance against the North One side as John Lawn seeks to find a winning formula among his backs.

The Greens coach has not been afraid to tinker with his back line and Horsfall will already be the third player to play in the full back role, along with new boys Adam Whaites and Mark Bedworth.

And Lawn sees tomorrow's match against a side two leagues below Dale as a chance to experiment further.

Chris Malherbe is moved out to the wing in a bid to provide more space for the exciting South African to operate in. After bursting onto the England Counties scene last season, Malherbe is finding teams are paying him more attention as was particularly the case in the Greens' 39-3 defeat at Moseley last Saturday.

Of his new role, Horsfall said: "I'm looking forward to it. I enjoy playing there as its a free role and you get the chance to hit some good lines. I'm happy playing anywhere Wharfedale put me though. I enjoy playing on the wing as well."

Wharfedale: Horsfall, Malherbe, Bedworth, Baggett, Hutchinson, Whaites, Newton; P Peel, Hindle, Ingram, Lister, Capstick, Renton, Verity, Baldwin. Reps: Dickinson, Graham, A Allen, Docherty, Meehan.
