From the tone of an exchange of letters between MP Ann Cryer and Bradford Council leader Margaret Eaton it is clear there is no love lost between the two in the debate over the future of Keighley College.

It is also quite apparent that petty tit-for-tat party politics has entered the complex plans for the £25 million flagship project for this area.

Regrettably, all it has done is cause deep concern and confusion at the college, and taken some of the edge off the feelgood factor about the project and given fodder to the detractors.

In one breath Mrs Cryer says the last thing she wants is for the issue to descend into a party political argument.

In the next she says she believes differences of opinion between herself and the Conservative executive committee of Bradford Council could delay the project.

The question then has to be asked -- exactly what were Ann Cryer and her team hoping to achieve by releasing letters between her office and Cllr Eaton?

It was never going to be easy to make this deliverable project a reality.

Apart from the finances, a number of other challenges had to be overcome -- and there are more on the horizon, including the traffic situation.

The simple fact is that those involved in the project know what has to be done to make it a reality and a lot of work is going on to ensure it happens.

Those who believe in, and are committed to, the future of Keighley and district -- including this newspaper -- are confident that the development will go ahead.

Elected members at every level who have influence will be reminded by us of the roles they played in achieving this vision when it comes to election time.
