Brighouse's Chris Mordue celebrated his birthday in style by lifting the Victor Ludorum Trophy at Clayton on Sunday.

Mordue, as always, produced a superior standard of bowling, and overcame some potentially tricky opponents on the way to the title.

BBA bowler Chris Wilson bowled exceptionally well to get to the final before going down

21-9, the result not reflecting the standard of bowling produced all day by Wilson.

The Victor Ludorum brings to an end the 2005 bowling season, although winter bowling can be found at Salts every Sunday from 9am.

In the leagues, an amazing last-game 29-1 win over Haworth led Drighlington A to safety in the Bartle League.

Relegation was almost a formality for Drig, but Brian Tillotson (21-1) and Brian Smith (21-4) ensured Drig stay up at the expense of Rufford B.

There were 21-6 wins for Arthur Roundhill and Paul Farquharson as champions Littlemoor B won 23-7 at home to Bowling A, and a 21-6 win for David Lord helped Clayton B to an 18-12 home win over West.

Bramley Libs achieved back-to-back promotions after clinching top spot in the Haigh League, Ken Watkin (21-2) and George Richmond (21-5) helping Bramley towards a 25-5 win over Spen Ex.

Oakenshaw gain promotion as well despite a 20-10 defeat, but Pudsey Brit B will be kicking themselves yet again as a 23-7 defeat at already-relegated Peel B condemns Brit to another year in a league they should have got out of last year.

Matthew Firth's first-ever game resulted in a 21-6 win as his Eccleshill C side thumped Troy-dale 29-1 in the Riley League.

Father Andrew will be nervously looking over his shoulder now, with his B team place in jeopardy for next year.

Ryan Exley's 21-3 win couldn't prevent Wibsey B going down

18-12 at home to Harold Park, and Susan Swain (21-8) was Guiseley B's only winner as they were thrashed 24-6 away at Knowles B.

Barbara Barraclough finished her season off on a high with a 21-5 win. Her Shelf side were well beaten at Royd House, with Keeley Ormston (21-2) producing another great performance.

Birkenshaw also ended the season on a high with a 25-5 win against Woodside B, Malcolm Ellis, David Gritffith and Nigel Brady all 21-9 winners - although Brian Thompson pipped them to the sweep with a 21-7 win.

There will be a final round-up of the season in next weeks T&A.

The Yorkshire Butter Pudsey Classic reaches it's conclusion on Saturday when an exceptionally strong field will contest the £700 first prize.

Whitefield's Gary Ellis will start strong favourite for the winners' cheque, although Waterloo finalist Kevan Shaw is fancied by many as a potential challenger.

Jon Edmondson will lead the Bradford challenge after qualifying last Saturday and Pudsey Britannia's Neil Simpson could be a good outside bet, especially if he can find the same level of form he produced on the way to the final. The draw is:
