Brad Meyers was a relieved man when he learned his Grand Final dream was still alive.

On Monday an RFL panel cleared the second-rower of a spear tackle on Richard Whiting that could have seen his hopes of a first career Grand Final appearance dashed by suspension.

When referee Steve Ganson placed him on report for flipping Whiting in a tackle, Meyers knew his chances of facing St Helens on Friday night and possibly Leeds Rhinos a week later were in jeopardy.

"The thought passed through my head," said Meyers, pictured.

"The thing with being put on report is that you don't know how long you are going to get.

"It could have been two or three weeks and I might have missed out on the Grand Final. But I would have been disappointed to miss any game, especially at this time of the season.

"Fortunately there's no need to worry any more."

The former Australia international was injured when his former club, Brisbane Broncos, won the NRL Grand Final in 2000.

Although philosophical about the experience, it isn't something that has spurred him on this season.

"That is part of footy," he said. "It was a long time ago. To make the Grand Final this year would be great, especially coming over here. It would be the icing on the cake."

"But first we are looking forward to Friday night. We are going to have to be on our game if we want to get in that Grand Final."
