Bobby Petta is ready to win over his Valley Parade critics.

The Dutchman has had a mixed reception since signing for City and was booed during the recent home game with Yeovil.

But the winger bounced back with improved displays against Colchester, when he headed a late equaliser, and Doncaster and believes he is coming into form ahead of Monday's West Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield.

"I've had my fair share of criticism and I know there is still a lot more to come from me," he said.

"I've played in every league - the Premier League, Scottish Premier, First Division, League Two and now League One and it is difficult. It's not as easy as people might think coming from a bigger club like Celtic because the game at this level is faster and more physical.

"It takes time to go out and get the hang of it but my game is definitely getting there. I'm getting fitter and I know I can play better."

Petta, who has missed only one game, was signed to give City the balance on the left flank that they lacked last season.

But Colin Todd tried a different ploy at the weekend by switching sides with his wingers.

The 31-year-old felt it worked well and said: "I don't mind playing on the right for a change. You get more options because there is the choice of coming inside to make the cross or to join in the play.

"Ben (Muirhead) did a good job previously when I was taken off and he was shifted over to the left.

"He scored a goal and had a hand in a few others and in that sense me playing on the right has had the same effect. It certainly doesn't faze me to be on a different side."

City are seven points adrift of Huddersfield heading into the televised home clash after both sides blew two-goal leads in their last game.

Petta, who had a chance to make it 3-0 before Doncaster hit back, added: "We were very disappointed to give it away because it has happened too many times. It is frustrating for the players and the supporters who have travelled.

"We're seventh now but should be up there a lot closer to the top. Losing points like that has hurt us.

"But there is still a long season ahead and the big one coming up on Monday. We, as players, need to get on top of that one.

"We're unbeaten in the last six games in the league and it's important we keep that run going.

"We know what went wrong against Doncaster and it's just a case of keeping those mistakes to a minimum.

"We've got a lot of experience and a goal-scoring record that stands out. There is a good group of players here and I'm sure we can finish high up."
