A 'fit and healthy' young man died suddenly for no apparent reason, leaving his family in disbelief.

Ben Lygo, 22, collapsed in his home in Springdale Crescent, Thorpe Edge, Bradford.

Despite his brother and father's attempts to resuscitate him, Ben was pronounced dead on arrival at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

His father Walter Lygo said: "We are just in disbelief because there was no sign that anything was wrong.

"One minute he was fine, the next he was dead. He was a fit and healthy lad. It's a week later and still there's no explanation for his death. We have to wait for the coroner's test results to come back."

Ben had been helping his dad install a new kitchen and had just gone upstairs into his brother's bedroom to drink a cup of coffee and play on the computer.

His brother Chris said: "He was in the front bedroom and I heard some banging so I ran in to see him on his knees on the floor, not gurgling, but making a croaky sound.

"I put him in the recovery position and shouted for my dad, who did mouth-to-mouth and managed to get him breathing, but then he stopped again."

His mum Jayne said: "We are all devastated. It's just unbelievable and the worst thing is not knowing what caused this."

Ben, born in Gibraltar, was a former Bradford City season ticket holder and was also passionate about Liverpool.

He used to play in goal for Stansfield Junior Football Club, in Apperley Bridge, and then became manager of Idle Junior's under 10 team.

He was also a keen musician who played the guitar as a hobby and the bugle for Idle Baptist Church's boys' brigade.

"As well as playing music, he loved listening to Oasis and the Beatles," said his Jayne.

Ben was a printer who had completed an apprenticeship in Queensbury.

He was due to move into his own flat with two friends on Monday.

Jayne said: "He was an ace lad who had lots of friends. He had just become an uncle and he was really keen on his new nephew William."

The Bradford Coroner's Office said an inquest into the death was opened and adjourned yesterday for more inquiries to be carried out..

The funeral is due to take place at Nab Wood Crematorium on Thursday at 11am.
