Bradford Salem are moving in rarified circles these days.

They remain unbeaten in Yorkshire Division One and play in the first round of the Powergen Intermediate Cup tomorrow.

And they are by no means ruling out being in the hat for the next round on October 15 either.

Salem are at home to Midlands Two East side Mansfield, who lost their opening league game 27-0 at home to South Leicester last Saturday.

"We would rather be playing a Midlands side at home, as they tend to be weaker, than a tough Yorkshire club like Hull away," said Salem's match secretary Neil Klenk.

"And, having beaten Sheffield in a pre-season friendly and started well in the league, we fancy our chances.

"Having only been promoted last season we were looking at a season of consolidation, but with a couple of new signings in the pipeline we think we can be challenging at the top end of the table."

Full back Richard Langhorn is out with a leg injury but Matthew Booth is fit to return at fly half after shoulder and neck injuries, so New Zealander Tama Collins, who filled in for Booth last week, reverts to No 15. Dave Luxton gets a start in the front row, club skipper Simon Davies being on the bench after calf trouble.

Keighley revive memories of the days before league rugby when they are at home to Oldham. James Tillotson is at scrum half for the unavailable Scott Amos, and key packman Paul Salmon returns at No 8 after being unavailable himself last week.

Baildon's opponents don't have to travel so far in the first round of the Powergen Junior Vase. They host Leodiensians from Leeds, while Aireborough also have home advantage against Barnsley in what is a repeat of last season's Yorkshire Silver Trophy final - hopefully with a different outcome.

While Bradford & Bingley and Cleckheaton both have a week off, there is no such luxury for fellow National League clubs Otley and Wharfedale.

After what was a fantastic day last Saturday, when 3,417 spectators watched them lose 18-15 to a last-ditch converted try at home to Harlequins, Otley are even more determined to succeed in their next National League One fixture at Coventry.

They must do so without prop Kris Fullman, however, as he has a broken arm. Steve Trethewey is his likely replacement. Wharfedale's club captain Andy Baggett has recovered from the injury which kept him out of the National League Two match against Henley.

But rather than disturb that successful midfield combination at Orrell, the selectors want him to play on the left wing.

He replaces James Hutchinson, who is on the bench. In the forwards, the only change is the usual prop rotation, Craig Ingram starting in place of Neil Dickinson. Steve Graham joins Oliver Renton on the bench.

Mark Carter is unavailable for Wibsey's club match at Leodiensians Thirds due to work commitments, and is replaced by Matt Hartley.

Graham Rackstraw makes a shock return to the bench after missing out last week as he was in hospital receiving treatment for breathing difficulties.
