A man has admitted causing the death of a mother-of-two after his lorry smashed into the car she was driving.

The husband of 32-year-old Stephanie Welsh, from Silsden, welcomed Wayne Ecclestone's admission in Court on Tuesday to a charge of causing her death by dangerous driving.

Mrs Welsh, 32, was killed when her blue Renault Laguna collided with a Scania HGV, driven by Eccleston, on the A65 at Draughton, near Skipton, on January 20 this year.

On Tuesday Eccleston, 23, of Halstead Terrace, Settle, North Yorkshire, pleaded guilty at Bradford Crown Court to causing Stephanie's death by dangerous driving.

His case was adjourned for reports to be prepared and he will be sentenced next month.

But Mrs Welsh's husband, Steven, said he had been told by the Crown Prosecution service that the charge carried a mandatory prison sentence.

Speaking at his terrace home in King Street, Silsden, Mr Welsh told how he went to the court hearing but did not come face to face with the man who caused his wife's death.

He said: "I did not want to see him, so I sat in a waiting room. He is fairly local and I didn't want to recognise him when I was out.

"But I will be there in court when he is sentenced. The prosecutors have told me he will definitely be going to prison and I am glad about that.

"I am pleased that he has pleaded guilty. Although it will mean he will get a lesser sentence for his guilty plea, it won't have to go to trial. You don't know how a jury will see things. Now I know he will go to prison."

Mr Welsh said their two children, boys aged 14 and nine, were coping with the loss of their mother.

He said: "They have good days and bad days but they are getting a lot of support from the rest of the family."

Stephanie was trapped in the wreckage after the accident and had to be cut free by firefighters.

She was flown by air ambulance to Airedale Hospital -- where she worked as a health care support worker -- but died soon after she was admitted.

Her funeral was held at St Stephen's Church at Steeton, where she and Steven were married in 2003.
