Keighley Bowling Club members enjoyed success in the last two finals of the Skipton season.

In the Norman Johnstone Floodlit Handicap at Gargrave, David Jacques returned to form after a few in-and-out seasons, narrowly beating John Parkin, of Cononley, 21-19. In an excellent night of bowling, marred by the absence of Les Foster due to a family bereavement. Losing in the semi-finals were Colin Wortley and last year's winner Stuart Myers.

Wortley recovered to win the Skipton Mixed Pairs, teaming up with his wife, Winnie, to defeat another Keighley pairing, Brian and Pam Potts 21-15 at Craven after an exhausting day's play at Lund Park and Steeton. Losing semi-finalists were Carol Harrison and Jamie Cunningham, Ken Brenkley and Hillary Seward.

Another exciting weekend of bowls begins today with the Valley Veterans Doubles at Silsden PF, starting at 10am.

The Valley and Supplementary Cups continue on Saturday up until finals day on October 1.

The team has bowled quite well this season without getting any luck at both home or away.

Action in the Hebden Floodlit Pairs continues at Lund Park in the nights ahead with the final on September 23.

The Yorkshire Cockcroft Handicap Finals are on Sunday at Kingston BC, Halifax, starting at 11am and features Trevor Hargreaves, Graham Reay and Brian Potts.

Cross Roads made the short trip across the Pennines to compete in the British Parks team championships, an event they won a few years agao. All seemed set for a repeat effort as they reached the final with plenty to spare after receiving a first round bye. Things went sadly downhill from there as they were annihilated by Millhouse (Sheffield) by over 70 points with only Richard Hargreaves recording a victory.
