Steeton 8 Altofts 3 - Steeton climbed to the top of the table with an emphatic win over their previously unbeaten opponents

Steeton were expecting a stern test and the early exchanges indicated that they would be a tough nut to crack. But a breathtaking display of attacking football put paid to their efforts, ensuring that they returned pointless.

Despite starting brightly enough though, the locals fell behind early on when 'keeper Knappy's punch was returned with interest, evading the defender on the line and going in off the bar.

But this stung the Summerhill side into action and they were soon on level terms when Aaron Hollindrake scored. A cool finish from Ricardo gave them a 2-1 lead at half time

It was one-way traffic after the break and once the third goal went in from Hollindrake, the flood gates opened, with both Stewart Airdrie and Hollindrake taking it in turns to score, the latter completing his hat-trick and going one better with a fourth.

With the score at 7-1 Steeton manager Paul Ettenfield made changes, resting Hockey and Ricardo in midfield and introducing Ben McCormack and Jon Chapman, but whilst relaxing were caught out twice, with Altofts bringing an air of respectability to the proceedings. But Airdrie had the final word by completing his hat-trick with the eighth goal of the game.

The win leaves Steeton at the top of the table with five victories from their first six games.

This week they entertain Lower Hopton at Summerhill Lane with a 2.30 kick off. The club are hoping that after the fine start they have made that they can attract a bigger crowd for this game.

The reserves face a tough trip to Ardsley but with the return of a number of key players hopes are high with them as well.
