Glossop NE 3 Silsden 1 - Silsden are mid-table in Division One of the New West Countis League after their first eight games.

They can make headway this weekend if they can pull off a win over Salford City at Cougar Park tomorrow (Saturday) and coach Andy Geary is hoping for a big crowd to get behind his team.

They were outgunned by Glossop North End when they went down 3-1 on Wednesday night, and had to be thankful for an own goal that put them on the scoreboard.

The scores were level when Jamie Longley was sent off and they conceded two late goals, and to add furter injury Michael Rosser was also sent off in the final minute.

The sendings-off were harsh and leave the team facing suspensions in the future.

On a poor pitch Silsden decided to opt for long ball tactics and produced some half chances for forwards Hoyle and Jimmy Hedges and the opening goal.

Hedges headed on to Hoyle but the Glossop keeper raced off his line. The ball broke to the left where Hedges regained control and his cross was deflected into the net by a home fullback.

The equaliser came from a cross that was picked by Hind who volleyed home from 12 yards.

Silsden survived early second half scares before coming back into the game, but it was the final two goals from Khara in the closing stages of the game that sealed Silsden's fate.

On Saturday Silsden had also enjoyed the lead thanks to an own goal.

The Congleton 'Bears' were struggling for form and relied heavily on long balls into the area, which were easily dealt with by Martin Foulger in goal.

The opening goal came as a result of a long free kick from Foulger. There seemed little danger by a Congleton defender lost his bearings and headed over his own keeper.

The keeper, Mottram, did precent Hedges increasing Silsden's lead ont he stroke of half time, grasping the ball at the second attempt.

After a brief flurry of action from the Bears Silsden regained their composure and realised the poins were theirs for the taking.

Hoyle got the second, tapping home a simple chance, after Hedges found space.

Congleton got a lifeline from a bizarre goal that saw Foulger collect the ball and start to run it out when Howard stuck out a foot and ran the ball into an empty net. It was a move outlawed since George Best fouled Gordon Banks, but whent he whistle went it was to confirm the goal rather than bring back play.
