Probably it was predictable that the weather would have a say in proceedings as the curtain was drawn on the 2005 cricket season.

The rain of Friday and Saturday morning ensured that some games never had a chance of starting. In one case that was disastrous and another two heaven sent. Oakworth II were denied the opportunity of progressing to Division Two, but Bradley and Long Lee retained their current status in the First and Second Division respectively.

In the Division One Haworth were involved with title contenders. They made Embsay use every sinew to take the points last week and this week entertained leaders Barrowford and did the same. On a very soft ground the Bull Holme side went first and struggled to 30 off the first fifteen overs losing three wickets and having Nick Burton retired hurt after being struck in the face.

Nigel Hargreaves and Liam Roberts asserted themselves and along with Farooq Shehzad added 160 to take the total to 190-6 at the end of the overs. Shehzad made 60no, Roberts 56 and Hargreaves 47 as Jamie Rowell finished with 3-61. Rowell was then the backbone of the Bronte side's reply but when he went, run out for 66, it was an uphill struggle. Richard Gooden made 21 and Richard Powell 18 but they closed 11 runs short of their target. So Barrowford retain their title by a point from Embsay.

The Shires Laners were again made to work hard for their victory at Foulridge. The Noyna side went first and had John Lickess, 72no, to thank as they reached a modest 119-7. John Metcalfe finished with 3-34 off 18 overs and Stephen Speak 3-50 off 22 overs. The visitors were going along well at 38-1, and then lost four wickets adding just two runs. Metcalfe joined his skipper, Duncan Ward, and scored 22 getting the score to 76-6. Ward went on to make 63no as the spoils were taken by three wickets in the 35th over. Tom Stephenson bowled well to finish with 5-56 off 14 overs.

Cullingworth, who finish third, were unable to make a start at home to Oakworth.

Glusburn finish a very creditable fourth after their return to the top flight. They entertained Thornton and batting first made 171-6 with Russell Newton making 73no as Richard Craddock took 4-50. The Booth Bridge Laners closed on 144 with G Farrar top scoring with 45 as Simon Hagerty claimed 5-62 and Newton 4-69.

There was no play between Haworth WE and Bingley Congs, and the game between Cowling and Bradley was also rained off.

The Division Two title race threw up two very nervy finishes for the sides in first and second places.

Mobile calls were winging between Skipton, Ingrow and Baildon Bottom - where victory for Haworth Road and defeat for either Sandy Lane or Ingrow would have seen the former promoted.

Leaders Sandy Lane were at Skipton CI and did the hard work of dismissing the homesters for 83 with Steve Carass taking 5-29 and Paul Oldfield 4-18. Already relegated CI then caused palpitations in Greenwood Park side as they were reduced to 66-7. They managed to get home, and take the title on run-rate, without losing another wicket despite the efforts of Sean Williamson 4-30 and Matt Carr 3-44.

Ingrow were also in trouble chasing a modest total at home to Crossflatts. In a 30 overs per side game the visitors posted 130-6 with Jonathan Gath leading the way with 41. The home side was cruising to victory at 109-2. Then there was mayhem as six wickets fell for the addition of just nine runs. David brown with 11no calmed the nerves as the Keighley side crept home by two wickets. Adie Parker scored 44 for the winners whilst Mick Addy 4-22 and Mark Jones 3-16 nearly pulled it off for the losers.

Denholme were determined to make Haworth Road Meths work hard for victory at Baildon Bottom. Losing the toss the home side were asked to go first and lost a wicket to the first ball of the game. Charlie Hainsworth 36 and Josh Crookes, who finished with 68, calmed the nerves and laid the platform for a big score. Chris Griggs hit 39no to help the score to 227-8 at the end of 40 overs.

The visitors were never really in the hunt but their young side proved stubborn before being dismissed for 138 in the gathering gloom. Skipper Mick Holme and Andrew Gudgeon bowled through to finish with 5-56 and 5-74 respectively.

Sutton travelled to Pendle Forest and beat the Fence side by 15runs, whilst Chatburn gave themselves a glimmer of staving off relegation by beating Cononley by nine wickets.

However, it was to no avail when Long Lee got the point they needed to stay up when the game at Airedale was called off because of the conditions.

Oakworth II were another side to lose out to the weather in Division Three. In second spot they were denied any play and had to settle for a point. By the same token opponents Haworth Road Meths were denied the opportunity to try and avoid relegation.

Third placed Ingrow St John's were at home to Riddlesden and knew that under the circumstances, a victory for them would see them promoted, and victory is what they achieved - by four wickets. The visitors, from down the hill, made a very creditable 175-8 with N Kamal scoring 72 and M Bailey 51 as Anthony Haigh took 4-60. Back roared the Saints led by skipper John Green who made 49 and A Razza 37no, and the spoils and promotion were theirs.

Champions Embsay II received three points when Ingrow St Johns II were unable to raise a side.

At the other end of the table Barrowford II and Pendle Forest II needed to win to try and stay in the division. Playing on adjoining fields they were able to keep an eye on each other. In the end Barrowford's eight-wicket win was enough to keep them up - on run rate.

Pendle Forest II, despite victory by five wickets over Jimmy Nelson's, join Haworth Road II in the Fourth Division next season.

Replacing them will be Glusburn II, who didn't play at Long Lee II, and Carleton. The Ramper Park side managed to hold off Cowling II by just 15 runs. Skipper Gareth Wooler made 91no as the home side opened with 158-7. Z Shafait took 3-44 and followed this with 67no as the visitors made 143 all out. Ian Wellock claimed 5-45.

In the only other game in the division where play was possible, Bradley II just got home by five runs at the expense of Airedale II.

There was a twist in the promotion tale of Division Five as leaders Cononley II lost at home to Cullingworth II in a hostile game, whilst neighbours Sutton II sent visitors Ingrow II packing and claimed the title.

Cullingworth II were dismissed for 120 with Mark Rendell scoring 26 as M Hayes finished with 7-46. Rendell then took 4-61 to go with Russell Hogg's 3-33 which saw the home side all out for 113. C Simmons made 34 and Dale Mason 31 for the losers.

Sutton 2nd team's Graham Hardaker was in tremendous form with the ball taking 7-11 as Ingrow II were dismissed for 42. The champions galloped home by eight wickets

Finally Gargrave II beat Pendle Forest III by 132 runs.
