The pre-season is in full swing for Bradford Park Avenue and they make the short journey to Doncaster to take on Armthorpe Welfare tomorrow for what will be their third warm-up game.

Having blown the short close-season

cobwebs away with a 4-0 win over Brods-worth MW, Avenue then put in a highly respectable display against Coca-Cola League One neighbours Bradford City last Friday night.

"Because we have a couple of games under the belt already, I will be taking a back seat tomorrow so I can look at it from a distance," said new Avenue boss Gary Brook.

The manager has completed the signing of former crowd favourite Dean Calcutt, who returned for a few games towards the end of the troubled season as founder members of the Conference North.

Centre back Tom Agers has already joined striker Alex Nesovic, Paul Ryan and Ryan Gray as newcomers.

Following training on Wednesday, goalkeeper Richard Sidall also put pen to paper at Horsfall Stadium.

"Dean has come back to us from Stalybridge Celtic and Richard was with Stocksbridge Park Steels last season," said Brook.

"We are hoping to add another player before the game tomorrow and we are still talking to Wayne Benn.

"I wanted to sign him in midweek but he wasn't available for Wednesday's training session. He will be involved against Armthorpe."

While Brook takes the overall view from the stands to run the rule over some of

the trialists and the undecided, Avenue's newly-appointed reserve-team manager Steve Newton will be running the show from the dugout.

"There are eight players in the 17-man squad who have taken part in the first two pre-season games, so obviously there are some trialists in the mix for tomorrow," said Newton.

"Gary needs to have a long look at things at this stage and so do I. It has only just been pointed out to me that the reserve- team fixtures begin on August 10.

"There are one or two players who we would have liked to look at tomorrow that are not available.

"That leaves us with a short amount of time to get our starting line-ups ready for the first team and the reserves.

"Gary should be fine because he has more first-team friendlies to come, but I may have to get something sorted out quickly to add another couple of games."
