Lashings - the world's best club cricket team - are bringing their star-studded line-up to Bradford on Monday, August 29.

They will be playing an Idle CC International XI at Cavendish Road in a

40-overs-a-side contest (2pm).

Already confirmed for the Kent-based club are former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns and Indian Test batsman VVS Laxman, who used to play in the Bradford League for Hanging Heaton and Pudsey Congs.

And Idle captain Mark Nicklin said: "It is almost certain that they will be joined by South African opening bat Herschelle Gibbs, Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif, former Yorkshire and West Indies batsman Richie Richardson and West Indies pace star Curtly Ambrose."

However, Nicklin added: "It is also a

possibility that they will be joined by Pakistani pace bowler Waqar Younis."

Other players who are members at Lashings include Sir Viv Richards, Alvin Kallicharran, Allan Donald, Phil Tufnell, Shane Warne, Courtney Walsh, Wasim Akram, Brian Lara, Mark Waugh and Mushtaq Ahmed.

Set to turn out for Idle is their overseas player Dinusha Fernando, who has represented Sri Lanka in both Test matches and one-day internationals.

He will be joined by club colleagues Mark Gilliver, Harvey Anderson and Nicklin himself, who said the side would be strengthened by the inclusion of overseas players from other Bradford League clubs.

As August 29 is a reserve date for the Priestley Cup final, no players from either Woodlands or Pudsey Congs can be selected, but Nicklin expects Jaffer Nazir to turn out from East Bierley, alongside clubmate Chris Taylor.

Money raised from the match will go towards Idle Cricket Club, and admission is £5 for adults and £2.50 for under-18s and senior citizens.

Idle, who seem to have perfected the happy knack of winning matches when they need to over the past few seasons, are at home to Saltaire tomorrow.

Relegation-threatened Saltaire are only one place but nine points below Idle, and Nicklin, a shrewd observer of the Brad-ford League scene, said: "The First Divi-sion is really in three tiers this season.

"At the top you have Pudsey Congs, East Bierley and Woodlands, and the second group is headed by Baildon, Pudsey St Lawrence and Hanging Heaton.

"And then there are teams like Saltaire, Morley, Bradford & Bingley, Bankfoot and Spen Victoria.

"We would be delighted to finish either at the bottom of the second group or at the top of the third group."

However, he resents the suggestion that Idle are a one-man team - Fernando.

Nicklin said: "Maybe we do our homework better than some other teams when it comes to signing overseas players.

"But we cannot expect him to score runs and take wickets all the time, and someone has to take the catches and field well off his bowling, and we have to set targets for him to bowl at."
