COUGARS are set to drop the club's 'Cougar Dice' fundraising lottery - and join forces with the Bradford Bulls' money raising scheme.

The shock move has been taken after falling income from the Keighley club's lottery scheme left them looking at alternative ways of bringing money into the club.

"We are not selling out to Bradford Bulls , we are joining forces and taking advantage of their expertise. We have been looking at ways of bringing more money into the club and the new scheme will be known as the Cougars Big One," said chief executive Colin Farrar.

"When I set up the original lottery it was bringing £50,000 a year into the club and I want to get back to that sort of figure - and more.

"Dewsbury are already involved and will this will give us all the opportunity to develop the scheme over a wide area."

"I know not everyone will like the idea but the we weren't getting any new members joining 'Cougar Dice' and we had to do something. This will give us the chance to have bigger cash prizes and attract more people into the scheme," he said.

The old Cougar Dice is going out with a bang with a guaranteed give-away of a £2,800 jackpot on Tuesday afternoon in the Airedale Shopping Centre.

"We will be rolling the Cougar Dice until someone wins the remaining jackpot, someone will definitely win nearly £3,000," said commercial manager Julie Walker.

The big 'Cougar Dice Finale' will start at 1pm and continue until someone wins the big money prize.

Mr Farrar added: "It is one of several steps we are taking to boost the regular income of the club so that we can continue to build for the future."

After pulling off a hard-fought 28-20 victory over Blackpool Panthers coach Gary Moorby had something positive to take to training sessions.

"I thought we deserved the win, any team that comes from behind three times has obviously showed plenty of spirit and character which is something we have been accused of lacking recently. It was a patchy first half performance and we hit our 'Kamikaze' patch in the last quarter of the first half by handing continuous possession to the Panthers.

"Defending is hard enough at the best of times, but in almost 90 degree heat it takes its toll and conceded two tries in that period.

"At half time I told the lads the if we improved our ball control we would win, I'm glad to say it looked like they believed me and we came back from 16-8 down to take the much-needed points.

"This win has given everybody a boost.

"Gareth Greenwood came off the bench to score two very good tries and he has just agreed an extension to his loan period. He is enjoying his stay at Cougar Park and is very impressed with our set-up.

"I will be looking to keep him for the rest of the season if possible," Moorby said.

The club has this weekend off for the Northern Rail Cup Final giving players a chance to get over their bumps and bruises. Phil Stephenson had fluid drained off his knee before last week's kick-off, Danny Murgatroyd had pain killing injections in his wrist before the game and Matt Steel played with damaged finger ligaments while Matt Bramald was touch and go with a calf injury before the start.

Others looking to return include Richard Mervil who is recovering from a hip problem, Stuart Calvert who pulled a hamstring and Matt Foster who has suffered a knee injury.
